Public hearings on budget, street sweeping grant on City Council agenda

The City Council will hold a public hearing on the City Manager’s proposed fiscal year 2024 budget at its March 22 meeting. It includes all non-School Department proposed expenditures; the public hearing on the school portion of the budget was held on March 15.

The City Council will also hold public hearings on the following:

• The acceptance and expenditure of a $150,000 New Hampshire Charitable Foundation grant. The grant will be used to establish a “comprehensive regional street sweeping program that will operate across municipal boundaries in the Great Bay watershed to significantly reduce nonpoint source pollution and measurably improve water quality.”
• The acceptance and expenditure of a $75,000 New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services grant for “data mining and for the development of a water service line inventory which will meet the requirements of the revised lead and copper rule set by the federal standards.” The grant is contingent on approval by the Governor and Executive Council. 

Also on the Council’s agenda are two resolutions related to the construction of the Pudding Hill Water Treatment Plant. One is an amendment to the agreement with Underwood Engineers “for additional construction administration, project representative, and field-testing services in the amount of $150,000.” The other is a resolution to add $200,000 to the contingency fund with Penta Corporation, the contractor building the treatment plant.
