The City of Dover recently completed a citywide revaluation of all assessed property, as required by the State of New Hampshire. Most assessed property values for 2014 changed as a result of the citywide revaluation.

Letters detailing the new assessments will be mailed to all property owners this week. The letter includes the new total assessed valuation, as well as the previous year’s assessment for reference.

The citywide revaluation includes a comprehensive review of market changes that affect property values, and is integral to maintaining updated assessments. Market data from 2013 to the most recent sales figures were reviewed to determine the updated assessments.

In addition to the citywide revaluation, the City of Dover inspects and reviews 20 percent of all properties each year on rotating basis, inspects properties with active building permits, and reviews recent property sales. The updated assessments for 2014 are the result of this ongoing review, as well as the state-mandated citywide revaluation.

The updated assessments will be reflected in the upcoming 2014 property tax bill. The City’s tax rate has not yet been set by the state Department of Revenue Administration, but is expected in the coming weeks.

For more information about the updated assessments, or if you’re a property owner and did not receive the letter, contact the Office of the City Assessor at 603-516-6014, visit the tax assessment section of the City’s website at http://www.dover.nh.gov/government/city-operations/finance/tax-assessment/, or visit the Office of the City Assessor at City Hall, Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
