Jenny Thompson Pool reopens for public swimming

The Jenny Thompson Outdoor Pool opens to the public on Monday, June 21. Other than specific times the pool is closed for swim meets, the outdoor pool will be open daily through Friday, Aug. 20.

The Jenny Thompson Outdoor Pool is a six-lane, 50-meter competition pool located at 140 Portland Ave. next to the Dover Ice Arena. This pool is mainly used for competitive and recreational swimming as well as occasional lessons during the summer.

Reservations are not required for lap or recreational swims. However, there are capacity limits. Lap swim: four swimmers per lane. Recreational swim: 75 people on the weekends and 30 people on weekdays to share space with summer camp participants. First come, first serve for both lap and recreational swims.

  • Punch ticket for 12 sessions: $50 for residents; $70 for non-residents; $30 for resident seniors and youths; $40 for non-resident seniors and youths.
  • Season passes: $70 for residents; $140 for non-residents; $40 for resident seniors and youths; $80 for non-resident seniors and youths. Season passes may be used at the Indoor Pool only when the outdoor pool is closed for swim meets.

Jenny Thompson Outdoor Pool is named in honor of 12-time Olympic medalist Jenny Thompson who trained at the pool that now bears her name. A 1991 Dover High School graduate, Thompson competed in the Olympic Games and World Swimming Championships between 1992 to 2004, winning eight gold medals and setting 13 world records.

Dover Indoor Pool

The Dover Indoor Pool is a 25-yard (22.86 meter) 6-lane pool located at 9 Henry Law Ave. next to the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire. With an average water temperature of 81 degrees, the Indoor Pool is used for a wide range of activities, including lap swim, therapy swim, lessons, competitive swimming, scuba classes, birthday parties and aqua-aerobics.

Beginning Monday, June 21, reservations are no longer required for lap or recreational swim, but there are capacity limits. Lap swim: three swimmers per lane. Recreational swim: 30 people. First come, first served for lap and recreational swims.

From Monday, June 28 to Sunday, Aug. 22, the Indoor Pool is closed on weekends.

Cost:

  • Per session: $5 for residents; $7 for non-residents; $3 for resident seniors and youths; $4 for non-resident seniors and youths.
  • Punch ticket for 12 sessions: $50 for residents; $70 for non-residents; $30 for resident seniors and youths; $40 for non-resident seniors and youths.
  • Six-month passes: $100 for residents; $190 for non-residents; $45 for resident seniors and youths; $90 for non-resident seniors and youths.
  • Yearly passes: $170 for residents; $330 for non-residents; $80 for resident seniors and youths; $160 for non-resident seniors and youths.

Yearly or six-month Indoor Pool passes may be used at the Jenny Thompson Outdoor Pool on weekends during the summer when Indoor Pool is closed.
