Dover Police to host National Night Out event on Tuesday, Aug. 4

The Dover Police Department will host its annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at police headquarters, 46 Chestnut St. The event is free and open to the public.

National Night Out is a time for community members to meet with police officers, discuss issues, learn what the police do, and unite with the common goal of crime prevention and safety.

Visitors can explore police vehicles and equipment, including a cruiser, motorcycle, crime scene vehicle, and tactical rescue vehicle. Officers, including the department’s K-9 unit, will be on hand to interact with the public.

There will also be other City of Dover departments as well as community organizations on hand to provide literature and other information related to the Dover community. Information on drug prevention, treatment and recovery resources, violence prevention, and local mental health resources will be available to the public through various booths at the event. The Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 443 will be outside the station cooking hamburgers and hot dogs free for the public.

“The members of the Dover Police Department want to meet our residents,” said Dover Police Chief David A.Terlemezian. “We recognize the importance of interacting with our community and the value of positive police-community partnerships. This annual event provides the community and our officers an opportunity to meet and talk in a casual and fun setting. I look forward to meeting new people each year.”
