The City Hall clock tower clock is back in operation as of the morning of Dec. 7.
David Graf of Tower Clock Repair & Restoration of Kittery, Maine, installed the rebuilt Bodine Synchronous electric motor that drives the clock mechanism, which seized on Oct. 31. The total cost of the repair was $1,100.
The E. Howard & Co. clock, made in Boston, is original to the 1935 City Hall building. It’s located within the clock tower that, using gears, moves the hands on the four exterior clock faces that keep the time. Originally, the clockwork mechanism was driven by weights but was later upgraded to utilize an electric motor.
