Dover Recreation will host an American Red Cross lifeguard training & recertification course and adult swim classes in the coming weeks.
Lifeguard training and recertification
The American Red Cross lifeguard program will be from Tuesday, Feb. 22, through Sunday, Feb. 27, with the recertification occurring Feb. 27. Participants seeking to become lifeguards must attend all training sessions and be at least 15 years old on the last day of the class. The program provides the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. It includes the latest science in first aid, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, emergency cardiac care, and the latest lifeguarding rescue skills and safety protocols.

Adult swim classes
Dover Recreation will host two adult swim classes: beginners and stroke clinic.
The beginner swim class will be held from 7 to 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 28, March 7, 14 and 21 – all Mondays. This class will focus on the basic safety and water skills to keep you safe in and around the water.
The stroke clinic will be held from 7 to 7:45 p.m. on March 2, 9, 16, and 23 – all Wednesdays. This class will focus on stroke development, movement analysis and strength and conditioning. Participants must be comfortable in the water to participate in this class. Starts, flip turns, and all strokes will be taught.
Registration for both courses opens Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 11:30 a.m. for Dover residents. Registration for non-Dover residents begins Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 11:30 a.m. Visit the Dover Indoor Pool website for more information: https://www.dover.nh.gov/government/city-operations/recreation/aquatics/.
