Road closures in effect during weekend events

There are two events in Dover this weekend that will affect traffic. They are as follows:

On Saturday, June 11, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a partial closure of Oak Street to allow the Hot Rod City open house at 99 Oak Street, the former National Guard Armory. This segment of Oak Street will be open to one-way traffic only from Portland toward Atlantic Avenue. Inbound traffic on Gulf Road will be diverted to Atlantic Avenue.

On Sunday, June 12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Broadway will be closed to all traffic between Oak Street and Hill Street to allow the 77th running of the New Hampshire Soap Box Derby. Traffic will be detoured via neighborhood streets, including Park and Hill streets. Oak Street will remain open. Parking will be prohibited on Broadway starting at 6 a.m. Residents and business owners with driveways on this section of Broadway, or on Rose Street, will not be able to access their driveways by vehicle during this time and must plan to park on nearby side streets.

The New Hampshire Soap Box Derby is an annual event for boys and girls ages seven to 20 involving gravity-powered cars racing in side-by-side competition. Dover is the site of the 77th annual New Hampshire local championship. Top-seeded racers in each region are eligible to compete in the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio.
