Jenny Thompson Outdoor Pool slated to reopen July 1

The major rehabilitation of the Jenny Thompson Outdoor Pool is nearly complete, with the Recreation Department preparing to reopen the pool on July 1. The pool has been closed since Aug. 10, 2025.

The rehabilitation of the pool includes repairing its foundation, named after the decorated Olympian who trained there in her youth. Work also includes the resurfacing of the pool deck and upgrading the pumping, filtration, and operational control equipment. The project also encompasses general site improvements, including a new perimeter fence, a storage building, ADA-accessible parking accommodations, and restorative landscaping.

Last month, the pool’s old plaster was removed and and the new main water piping was installed. This allowed for comprehensive leak and pressure testing of all pipes, both of which the pool passed successfully. The project contractor, NorthEast Earth Mechanics, LLC., then finalized the deck drainage system. The contractor is preparing to install new concrete for the pool deck and a new fence around the pool in the coming days.

The Dover Indoor Pool continues operation during the outdoor pool’s construction.
