The Recreation Department awarded sister and brother, Katy and Matt Cox, the Dover Recreation Volunteer of the Year Award for 2020. They were also the recipients of the 2020 Heyliger Dover Recreational Basketball Volunteer Award.
Assistant Recreation Director Krista Trefethen said Matt Cox and Katy Cox have been volunteer coaches for approximately 10 years in the various recreation basketball programs. They have children of similar ages, and they coached their kid’s teams from third through eighth grade.
“They always want what is best for the kids, and they are always the most positive ones on the floor,” Trefethen said. “The kids on their teams always improved their basketball skills and, more importantly, learned to be good teammates and people. They never coached for any reason other than to make sure all the kids had a great experience and to give back to the community.”
