The Dover Skate Park's grand opening ceremony has been postponed to Sunday, Oct. 22, due to the forecast of rain on Saturday. The inaugural skate competition has now been postponed until Saturday, Nov. 4.
The grand opening ceremony will occur at 12 p.m. on Sunday. Mayor Robert Carrier, Recreation Director Gary Bannon along with members of the Dover Skatepark Design Committee and Recreation Advisory Committee will be on hand for park dedication, which has been years in the making.
Construction on the skatepark began in June, which followed work preparing the site for construction last year. In 2021, the City Council awarded the bid to construct the skatepark to Artisan Skateparks of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, for a cost not to exceed $500,000. There are a few remaining items to be completed at the site, such as landscaping, drainage system work and the installation of picnic shelter.
