The Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Erica Cooke, a math teacher at Oyster River High School (ORHS), has been named as the Chamber’s 2022 Educator of the Year. Chamber staff and Awards Committee members attended a recent ORHS staff meeting to surprise Ms. Cooke in person.

Heather Stanley, a special education teacher at ORHS who nominated Cooke for the award, said, “Erica works with students to develop different ways of learning and helps them understand who they are as learners. She shows students that she is human and engages them in embracing mistakes as learning tools, not shameful things.”

During the staff meeting, the Chamber’s 2022 Student Scholarship recipient attended via Zoom and learned that she will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Chamber. Eva Guerrette, an ORHS alumni, is currently a freshman at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. As Educator of the Year, Ms. Cooke will also receive a $1,000 stipend.

The Chamber’s 2022 Annual Awards Gala will be held on Thursday, April 28 at the Regatta Banquet & Conference Center in Eliot, Maine, at 5:30 p.m.
