Snow removal operations have been under way since a powerful nor'easter arrived early Tuesday morning, and will continue today. Crews are working around the clock to keep roads passable, widen streets, open sidewalks and clear parking lots. Because of the significant snow accumulation, snow removal operations are expected to continue into the evening and Friday.

With more winter weather in the forecast for this evening, Friday and next week, motorists are asked to adhere to the overnight, on-street winter parking ban, which will help facilitate snow removal operations. Please try to avoid parking on the street today, if possible, and utilize plowed public parking lots or other off-street parking options.

Motorists and pedestrians should still use extra care while traveling. Unusually high snow banks will impede visibility especially at intersections until they can be removed. Access to sidewalks and on-street parking is limited until snow can be pushed further back from the middle of the roadway. Residents are asked to anticipate that street plows may push snow into driveway openings already cleared. Plows make multiple passes on City streets during and after a storm.

As a reminder, curbside trash and recycling pick-up is delayed by one day this week. Property owners are asked to place trash bags and recycling bins at driveway openings, back from the edge of the street, and not on top of snow banks or in paths where sidewalk snow removal tractors are operating.

As we continue to dig out from the storm, residents are asked to check in on their neighbors and the elderly. It is also important to keep all the exits in your home or business free of snow and ice. Be sure to shovel a path to any door that may be used less frequently during the winter months, as this will provide a clear exit from the building should the normal exit path be blocked. It will also provide another door that may be used by an ambulance crew in the event of a medical aid.

Be sure to clear furnace and exhaust vents that may be obstructed by snow accumulated from drifting and blowing.
