A recently released video documents the creation and installation of Reaching Across, a recycled metal public art installation at the entrance to the Joe B. Parks Riverwalk Public Gardens.
The video follows the project from early concept and design through fabrication, installation and a public ribbon-cutting ceremony held in August. Featuring footage of the artist at work, the installation process and comments from members of the Dover Arts Commission and city staff, the video offers an inside look at how the project came together through collaboration and community support.
Reaching Across was created by Durham-based artist Markus Weinfurter and is constructed entirely from recycled metal. The archway serves as a welcoming gateway to the gardens and Dover Riverwalk, symbolizing the interconnectedness of nature, humanity and technology while reflecting Dover’s industrial roots and creative spirit.
The project was led by the Dover Arts Commission with support from community donors and partners, and installation was completed by Dover Community Services.
