Dover High School celebrates Class of 2026

Dover High School celebrated the Class of 2026 on Thursday, June 4, during commencement exercises at the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore Center.

The ceremony included performances of the national anthem and Dover High School alma mater by senior members of the chorus, recognition of graduates entering military service, student speeches and the awarding of diplomas.

Dover High School Principal Peter Driscoll congratulated the class and praised its energy and sense of connection.

“This class has many characteristics that have helped define them and contribute to their success, the most basic being strength in numbers,” Driscoll said. “This class will best be remembered for their energy and their social connectedness.”

Driscoll encouraged graduates to carry that spirit of collaboration with them beyond high school.

“As you move forward, please remember that all aspects of your life — family, friends, school, work and fun — are better when we are working together,” he said. “Congratulations, Class of 2026. I truly hope the best for each of you.”

Class President Giana Leonardi reflected on choosing Dover High School as a student from Nottingham, describing the transition from a smaller school community to a much larger class as intimidating at first.

“But as I look out into my classmates’ faces now, I see a sea of people that I’m so glad I’ve had the privilege to meet,” Leonardi said.

Leonardi urged classmates to embrace uncertainty as they begin the next chapter of their lives.

“No matter where life takes you next, get comfortable being uncomfortable,” she said. “Go apply for the job you think you’re underqualified for. Introduce yourself first. Move somewhere new. Try something that you might fail at. Above all, don’t be afraid to aim high.”

Class Vice President Connor Lazarz thanked faculty, staff, families, coaches and classmates, saying the class would be remembered for the way its members supported one another.

“I think what makes us different isn’t just what we’ve accomplished,” Lazarz said. “It’s how we show up for each other and the relationships we’ve created along the way.”

Salutatorian Reese Sanders encouraged classmates to remember the importance of kindness, while valedictorian James Hóng Chang Malone urged graduates to keep moving forward when faced with challenges.

“Don’t let the hardship pull you down,” Malone said. “And remember that you have agency over your own life.”

Diplomas were presented with the assistance of Dover School Board Chair Robin Trefethen, Superintendent Christine Boston and Mayor Dennis Shanahan.
