Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregivers: Learn Strategies for Success

In partnership with staff from The Residence at Silver Square (opening January 2018), the Dover Public Library is pleased to present a talk by Kelly McCarthy, board certified dementia educator for NIDE (National Institute for Dementia Education) on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. in the library’s Lecture Hall.

McCarthy is the author of “Brass Ring Memoirs” which offers encouraging stories using practical methodologies to help caregivers reach their goals in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Using concepts such as “reaching for the brass ring,” “creating peacock moments,” and “finding out what’s under the iceberg,” Kelly will teach some simple, easy-to- understand ways to help caregivers and family members effectively communicate and care for individuals with memory challenges.

McCarthy has been in the senior health industry for over 20 years. A graduate of Emmanuel College in Boston with a B.S. in Psychology and a concentration in Gerontology Rehabilitation Management, she is currently the Corporate Director of Memory Care and Resident Engagement at LCB Senior Living. She is certified as a Master Trainer for the R.I. Alzheimer’s Association and was the keynote speaker at the 2016 Alzheimer’s Caregiver Conference. She is also a Board Certified Dementia Educator for the National Institute for Dementia Education. Copies of Kelly’s new book, “Brass Ring Memoirs” will be offered for sale after her presentation.

This program is free and no pre-registration is required. The first 30 attendees to the event will receive a free copy of “Brass Ring Memoirs.” Extra copies will be available for sale.
