The Cooperative Alliance for Seacoast Transportation (COAST) officially announced today
that it is now providing up-to-the-minute-updates on its public transit services on Twitter (@coastbus). COAST will be using Twitter to “tweet” (post updates) on its bus service within a couple of minutes if a
bus or trolley is delayed, and will tweet again when the bus is back on time. In addition to tweeting about
service interruptions, COAST will also tweet periodically about significant upcoming events and other
non-service related news.“We have been using Twitter since June - testing how best to utilize this new technology,” stated Rad
Nichols, Executive Director. “We now feel comfortable with it and want to let our current and potential new
passengers know it is available for their free use.”
Individuals wishing to follow COAST on Twitter can check www.coastbus.org, or will need to set up their
own free Twitter account. Twitter can be set up to send a text message to a cell phone when @coastbus
updates. Users will want to check with their cell phone provider about receiving texts and whether texting
is included in their plan.
“COAST’s Twitter feed is one more way in which we are making it easier and more convenient to use
public transit,” commented Jeremy LaRose, Manager of Operations & Planning. “Passengers will now
have a way to find out just what is happening if their bus is delayed and they are already out waiting at
the bus stop.”
Information on how COAST will use Twitter is available on the COAST web site at www.coastbus.org.
