Harp Concert - Dover Public Library 9/15
Department Posting:Public Library
posted on:08/28/2009
The Friends of the Library will present Harpist Stephanie Curcio in a free concert and lecture on Tuesday evening, September 15 at 7pm in the Dover Public Library’s Lecture Hall. Curcio will present a brief history of the harp and will demonstrate and perform on both lever and pedal harps, explaining the differences and using a wide variety of musical styles. She welcomes questions and discussion from the audience.

Stephanie Curcio came to New Hampshire in 1969 after musical studies with renowned teachers in New York City. Her extensive work as a performer, teacher, publisher, arranger and composer for harp has gained her national and international acclaim. Though currently retired, she spent over 25 years as teacher of harp at the University of New Hampshire, Phillips Exeter and Phillips Andover Academies. Her students have been finalists and winners in numerous national competitions and her compositions and arrangements are recognized the world over. Her composition, “The White Mountain Suite”, was performed on six harps for the 5th anniversary of the fall of Old Man of The Mountains. In 2008, the NH House of Representatives recognized Curcio for "40 years of service and contribution to education and enhancement of the art of music in New Hampshire". She currently teaches harp privately, owns and runs Stephanie Curcio Publications, composes (often on commission), writes for harp magazines, and performs as guest lecturer and teacher.
