City of Dover announces Park Street Neighborhood Meeting

Ward One Councilor Bob Carrier is pleased to announce a neighborhood meeting, Saturday July 11, 2009 at 9 am for the Park Street Park neighborhood. The meeting will take place at the Park Street Park, weather permitting.

According to the letter sent to residents in the neighborhood, Councilor Carrier is organizing this meeting based upon concerns and comments he’s received regarding the condition of Park Street Park. These concerns have ranged from graffiti and vandalism to the overall condition of the park. Councilor Carrier hopes to replicate a neighborhood effort that took place 15 years ago where the neighbors got involved to rehabilitate the park, based upon similar concerns and conditions of the park. That effort was a success at both rehabbing the park and generating interest in the neighborhood.

Residents, landlords and the public are invited to attend the meeting at the park on Saturday July 11, 2009 at 9 am. The goal of the meeting is to begin a dialog regarding the condition of the park, and surrounding neighborhood. In addition, to listening, organizers (Councilor Carrier, Community Services Director Doug Steele, Recreation Director Gary Bannon and Planning Director Christopher Parker) want to work with all residents to improve the park and gather feedback on the current conditions and work together to improve this gem of a park.

Should the weather not cooperate, an indoor site to relocate will be made available, and signs will be posted at the park directing participants to it. The Planning Director stressed that this meeting is open to all, and organizers hope that landlords will encourage their tenants to please attend this meeting.
