Landscaping at the Water's Edge
Date: Tuesday, May 19, 2009
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Dover City Hall Council Chambers
The City of Dover Open Lands Committee and UNH Cooperative Extension in Strafford
County will present a workshop on low impact landscaping to preserve water quality. Each
one of us lives in a watershed, and so the decisions we make on how to manage the
landscapes around our homes can have a huge impact on the water quality in our local
streams, rivers, ponds and the estuary. A watershed is an area of land that drains into a
common body of water. Watersheds can be very small, for example a neighborhood that
drains into a local stream, or they can be very large stretching across miles of land. Each
one of us affects the quality of water in the streams, rivers, lakes and coastal drainages.
Topics:
• How our footprints on the landscape affect our water quality
• Simple solutions for managing storm water runoff
• Principles of Ecological Landscape Design
Speakers
• Jeff Schloss, Extension Specialist Water Resources, UNH Cooperative Extension
• Geoffrey Njue, Extension Educator Agriculture Resources, UNH Cooperative
Extension, Strafford County
Who should attend: Members of conservation commissions, planning boards, city and
town planners, parks ad recreation department staff, landscapers, developers, and
home owners.
This workshop is open and free to all.
