Memory Lab

Convert your memories to digital files

Your memories are stored in photographs, negatives, slides, VHS tapes and cassette tapes. All of these media degrade over time – and your memories will eventually be lost.

Training sessions are offered for each piece of equipment.  See our Events calendar for times.  No registration required.

At the Dover Public Library you can convert all of those memories to digital files, so that they can live on without deteriorating.

This equipment is available for use within the library.  Come to the Circulation Desk to pick up the equipment.

  • For photos or cassettes, bring a thumb drive to carry your files home, purchase one from us for $10, or save your files to the cloud.
  • If you are converting VHS tapes to DVD, you will need a DVD-R or DVD-RW disk, or you can purchase one from us for 50 cents.

Photos, negatives and slides

Use our Epson Perfection V600 scanner to scan photos, negatives and slides and convert them into – JPEG, Bitmap, TIFF, PDF files. You can save these files on a thumb drive, or save them in the cloud. You can scan multiple photos, two negative strips, or four slides at a time. The software provides a variety of adjustment modes to improve the quality of your scans.

VHS tapes

Our Funai VHS recorder converts your VHS tapes to .MOV files saved on a DVD. You can later convert these files to .MP4 files. Save all those home movies and tapes of the kids’ school plays. The VHS conversion occurs in real time, so a two-hour video takes two hours to save onto the DVD. Bring a book, or borrow one here! Commercial tapes cannot be copied.

Cassette tapes

Convert your Cassette tapes to .WAV files with our ION Tape-2-PC converter. .WAV files can be converted to .MP3 files, if you prefer. Like the VHS tapes, this conversion runs in real time.
