Keating and Birchwood Reconstruction

Work on Keating Avenue and Birchwood Place is under way. This project involves redesign of the roadway to include low-impact development practices that will disconnect impervious areas and provide treatment and infiltration of storm water runoff. The project will also include the reconstruction of the existing municipal sewer line.

Upcoming Work

Week of December 4, 2017

A limited crew will be on site next week, taking advantage of the extended warm weather this season. They will continue to pour sidewalks, backfill behind curbing and sidewalks, and complete other miscellaneous site work items as the weather allows. It is not anticipated that there will be any additional work after Friday, December 8th. The contractor will resume work in early spring of next year.

Please keep in mind, while the construction work is suspended over the winter, this is still an active construction project. Until topcoat of paving and final vegetation is established, items such as curbing and sidewalk are more susceptible to damage. For this reason, the city will not be plowing the sidewalks this winter. We ask that you exercise caution during your snow removal efforts to avoid chipping or damaging the work.

Thank you all for your patience through this construction. As a quick recap, this season the contractor installed over 2.4 miles of new utility piping, 1.2 miles of new curbing, ½ mile of new sidewalk, new road base and pavement all in the existing roadway. We know it has been a long season for you, and we appreciate your cooperation.

Water and Sewer Service Interruptions

There are no more water or sewer interruptions anticipated as part of this project.

Traffic Patterns

All streets will be closed to through traffic (local traffic only), Monday - Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. for the duration of the project. Stark Avenue will be reduced a single lane during the construction day, with alternating traffic. We recommend seeking an alternate route when possible. There may be times when the road is not passable from one direction and traffic may be required to go around. On street parking may be limited due to storage of construction materials and equipment.
