The Community Services Department recently received an award from the state for its efforts in developing a sidewalk management repair program utilizing computer based technology. The award was given to the City of Dover by the Office of State Planning, and was awarded in May.
The department has been using a Geographic Information System to document the condition of all sidewalks in the City.
The program allows the department to develop strategies and funding priorities in addressing how it fixes and upgrades the city's sidewalks. The program allows the department to rank sidewalks based on their condition, use, and future link-ability to other sidewalks as well as whether or not the segment is on a snow plow route.
