Whittier Street Bridge Reconstruction Project

Upcoming meeting to focus on yearlong closure of Whittier Street Bridge

A public meeting to discuss the traffic impacts during the reconstruction of the Whittier Street Bridge over the Cocheco River will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016.

This project requires the closure of Whittier Street to all traffic beginning Nov. 28, 2016. The road is expected to remain closed for one year.

The contractor, E.D. Swett Inc. of Concord, will mobilize the week of Nov. 8 and the bridge will be closed on Monday, Nov. 28. During construction, through traffic on Whittier Street will be detoured to alternate routes and pedestrian access over the bridge will be discontinued. Access to Whittier Street from Washington Street will remain open to local traffic only up to Regent Drive. Access to Whittier Street from Sixth Street will remain open to local traffic only up to Whittier Falls Way while pedestrian access to the Dover Community Trail and Dover Cassily Community Garden will be available for the duration of construction.

Plans may be viewed at the Public Works office at 271 Mast Road.
